4 live-webcam pictures a projected on four 3d-models

Why are there so many webcams on the net, even if they don’t show anything interesting? Webcams give us the possibility to have a look at distant places/times in realtime. They open a kind of tunnel. My work completes this idea by transforming this distant reality from virtuality to something real, touchable. Therefore four elected webcam-streams (Denmark, crossing | Amsterdam, laundromat | Berlin, courtyard | Holland, marketplace) are projected with the help of a mirror-construction on four models of the particular places. To make the projection fit on the models, the architecture of the webcam-places was rebuild in a 3D-application and printed on a 3D-plotter. That way, the picture information is displayed on the same geometrical shapes, it is filmed from. The result are four “live-models” from a distant space, which can be regarded three-dimensional and are touchable. With this material manifestation, the transmission, in contrast to the usuall webcam, where transmission is not finished, is completed. The viewer adepts the webcam-stream as “real”.
